HB 15: Courts; certain civil pleadings to be filed electronically; requireVoted on Friday March 3, 2017
John Pezold's thoughts
HB 15 amends how criminal case information is filed and allows a superior court to permit electronic filings for pleadings, related documents, and payments with the consent of the district attorney, by court rules, or by standing order.
Beginning on January 1, 2018, all civil cases must file documents and pleadings online. In doing this, a court can charge an electronic transaction fee that shall not exceed $7 per transaction.
The bill also requires the Council of Superior Courts of Georgia to make and publish in print or electronically policies and procedures for e-filing provisions.
The documents filed electronically are not considered public record until they have been received by the clerk.
