HB 231: Controlled substances; Schedules I, II, IV and V; change certain provisionsVoted on Thursday February 16, 2017
John Pezold's thoughts
I voted NO on HB 231, which adds additional synthetic opiates, synthetic marijuana, and bath salts to the narcotics code section.
I voted NO because there have not been any deaths reported related to or caused by naturally-grown marijuana in the state of Georgia, so I did not feel comfortable voting for this legislation addressing synthetic marijuana knowing that if Georgia decriminalized marijuana, people would stop turning to the deadly synthetic forms.
We should instead be focusing on expanding cannabis oil and its combinations to treat some conditions and then look to decriminalization.
