HB 413: Public utilities; regulation of certain matters pertaining to rural telephone cooperatives; provisionsVoted on Friday March 3, 2017
John Pezold's thoughts
HB 413 regulates rural telephone cooperatives. The bill specifically says all patronage dividends or capital credits held by a telephone cooperative that are presumed abandoned in a calendar year can be donated to a non-profit organization that supports education of economic development in the cooperatives service area and the amount is exempt from taxation.
I voted NO on this measure because the entire concept is a gross government overreach into telephone companies and where donations, funded by private individuals, go.
