SB 193: Positive Alternatives for Pregnancy and Parenting Grant Program; program mission and practice; reviseVoted on Tuesday March 28, 2017
John Pezold's thoughts
Senate Bill 193 relates to the Positive Alternatives for Pregnancy and Parenting Grant Program. The purpose of the program is to develop a statewide effort that promotes healthy pregnancies and child birth by awarding grants to non-profit organization thats provide pregnancy support services.
The bill also includes the language that allows expeditied partner therapy for patients with chlamydia or gonorrhea. "Expedited partner therapy" means the practice of prescribing patients with antibiotic drugs to the sexual partner or partners of a patient clinically diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhea without physical examination of the partner or partners.
I voted NO on the measure because I do not believe the state should be providing grants to non-profit organizations, regardless of cause.More information on legis.ga.gov
